Saltwater Fishing

Saltwater fishing is nothing like freshwater fishing. To begin with, saltwater fishing takes significantly stronger and heavier tackle and equipment than that used by freshwater fishermen.

There are several categories of saltwater fishing discussed in this article.

For starters, there is the light-medium category, which would include fishing for certain species such as Snook, Redfish and Spotted Sea Trout. These fish and others in this category are typically caught in bays and other similar estuaries. Also included in this category would be inshore fish such as the Pompano. If you are fishing for these species to eat them, be aware that during summer months redfish and trout will most probably contain worms.

A spinning reel in the class of a Penn 710 or 712, or 4500ss spooled with a fine quality 10-pound test monofilament line works better along with light to medium action rod. Penn makes good quality reels that will hold up to the harsh saltwater fishing environment.

For terminal tackle you will begin by tying a shock leader of approximately 18 inches using 20 pound test line or fluorocarbon. Fluorocarbon is slightly more expensive but is significantly less visible to the fish. Attach the leader tying line to line or use a saltwater rated barrel swivel. For the hook you’d better use a 6/0, preferably an Eagle Claw.

The second category afferent to saltwater fishing is the medium to heavy category for species such as Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, and smaller Jacks. These species of fish are most usually found near shore regions of the Gulf of Mexico and on the Lower East Coast. In this class you could also include the smaller “schoolie” King Mackerel under the legal size limit of 24″.

Do not forget to first consult a saltwater species book for knowing the difference between the large Spanish and juvenile Kingfish. They are extremely similar. The easiest way to tell the difference is that the Spanish Mackerel will have a “black flag”, on the anterior portion of its dorsal fin where the King Mackerel, with the exception of very young fish, does not have this special detail. The second more reliable way to tell is by looking at the lateral line that runs down the body. In a Spanish Mackerel this line drops gradually behind the pectoral fin whereas in the King Mackerel the line drops off sharply.

To be on the safe side, equip yourself with a Penn 704 or similar size equipment spooled with 12-15 lb test coupled with a thin wire leader of 20lb test or so. Check your local fishing regulations for the most appropriate hook, in Florida a small treble like a 2/0 is used.

From the moment the inshore net bans were placed these species have come back more abundantly than ever and you are most certain to find some. Keep in mind that Redfish, King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel are migratory species so you will have to verify the seasonal availability for these species of fish.

Enjoy your fishing trip. Tight lines!

REAL Summer Foods

Fire Element

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) there are five elements that
contribute to all activities: TREE / WOOD, FIRE, SOIL / EARTH, METAL and WATER.

Fire is the element of summer … so how can this help to put more of YOU in
summer? The more you use EnergyRich Seasonal Foods (rather than
associational season foods - a-hem like, maybe, ice-cream?), the more energy you
have available for fun!

Fire Foods - to Keep You Cool

1. Grains:

• Quinoa - might be considered a super-grain– has an incredible
amount of protein and contains the amino acid lysine, so the protein is more
complete. The quality of protein in quinoa is at least equivalent to that in milk.
Quinoa also has a high level of iron, potassium and riboflavin, as well as other B
vitamins: B6, niacin, and thiamin. A real strength builder for summer heat, but also
has a light, delicate taste perfect for a cool, summer grain salad.

• Corn - is a grain - although many of us often want to make it a
vegetable - that has a sweet flavor and is an overall energy and blood strengthener
(good to combat that summer heat!) It’s the only grain that contains Vitamin A- this
helps it to be refreshing and an ideal hot weather grain. Not to mention that
summer is the major growing time here in the Northeastern part of the United
States. (While I was in Upstate New York this past weekend the corn was only shin-
high; by the time I am back in August it will be over 6 feet tall!)

2. Red Vegetables:

• Tomatoes - now, botanically, yes, this is a fruit, but technically they are
a berry (pulpy and contain more than one soft seed); however, legally in the U.S.
(since 1893) - vegetable. Why? Because it is used as one. Logical, huh? Most
important - nutritionally: sweet and sour taste, cools the blood and eases digestion.
A tomato is highly acidic, but after it has been digested it alkalizes the blood so can
be helpful for keeping the body temperature down. According to Macrobiotic
philosophy this fruit/berry/vegetable should never be used (it is too acidic and
creates a fighting temperament), but if used in moderation this can be a wonderful
summer food.

• Red peppers - we are talking the sweet not the hot and spicy. Red
peppers are a green pepper at its full maturity. They are cooling and improve the
appetite, but should not be used by anyone who has any type of digestive disorder.
High in vitamin C - good for a summer energy boost!

To your health and success, Heather

Conquer Your Desktop Clutter with Action Files

Action files enable you to unclutter your desk yet still keep reminders and current papers close at hand. Also known as working files, these files are usually separate from — and in addition to - client, project, or reference files. Action files are for current or pending activities and miscellaneous things you must act on.

Action files must always be within easy reach– ideally in a small desktop file holder that holds the file folders upright so the tabs are clearly visible.

For added peace of mind, make a note in your calendar or scheduling software to remind you of important dates. This combats the “out of sight, out of mind” worry and lets you clear your desk without fearing you’ll forget something important.

Suggested categories for Action Files:

• phone calls to return

• agenda for an upcoming staff meeting

• expenses to submit

• bills to pay

• papers to file

• business development ideas

• good ideas to try someday

• papers to photocopy

• current departmental & administrative matters

• pending health insurance claims

• your upcoming business trip

• tasks to delegate to your assistant

• conferences to register for

• matters to discuss with co-workers

• errands to run, gifts to buy, sale coupons

• things to discuss with your child’s teacher or doctor

• pending (for example, letters you sent for which you must receive a reply)

It’s not necessary to use every category listed here, and feel free to add any others that suit you.

Personal Training: 3 Powerful Ways to Position Yourself as an Expert

Regardless of what profession you are in, it is critical that people believe that you know what you are talking about! You won’t find very many successful lawyers whose clients never win in court, or popular doctors whose patients are continually misdiagnosed. This concept obviously applies to personal trainers as well, and making sure you are viewed as an expert in your field is as important as having the knowledge to begin with.

It is helpful to be aware of the simple fact that a person’s perception is their reality, even if that perception is incorrect. Let’s use the example of the doctor in the above paragraph. If you heard through personal references that Dr. John Smith wasn’t a very good doctor, the chances that you would ever go see Dr. Smith are pretty slim. However, do you actually know for a fact that Dr. Smith is a bad doctor? No - you just have the perception that he is a bad doctor because that is what you heard. Do you see how your perception is your reality, and how Dr. Smith is unlikely to be getting any of your business?

Your mission is to make sure that you are always viewed as an expert in your field! Otherwise you will end up like poor Dr. Smith, and your list of clients will be short indeed, as will the life of your business. However, if you have done your job and created the impression that you are an expert in your field, then the opposite will hold true. People will have “heard” that you know what you are talking about, and your reputation and your business will grow as a result. In order to get to this desired end result, three effective ways for you to build your reputation include media exposure, writing books, articles, or success tips for your field, and approaching any given situation from a “position of power”.

Media Exposure

The most common ways to get viewed as an expert using media exposure include news programming on television, magazine and newspaper stories, and radio time. Each of these methods has one thing in common: mass exposure via a publicly accepted system of obtaining information.

Consider this point from your own perspective. If you see an interview on the news, read an article about a company in the newspaper, or hear about a professional organization on the radio, your natural instinct is to believe that the company or organization has a firm grip on the ins and outs of their product or service.

Why do you think that? Is it because the radio program included a long list of professional references for the company? Is it because the magazine article listed a passing grade by a professional review board or other certifying agency qualified to judge the advertised organization?

The answer to those questions is most likely “no”. Why then do you believe in the company’s ability to provide the product or service that is discussed? The answer is simple: because you were exposed to the company via a publicly accepted system of obtaining information. Whether that system was the six o’clock news, your local daily paper, or your favorite magazine, chances are that you believed what you read or heard simply because of WHERE you read or heard it!

Ideally, all consumers - including professionals such as yourself - would use other additional methods to determine the qualifications of a company before purchasing their product or service, but in reality, does that happen very often? No, not really. Most people believe what they read and what they hear, and as a Fitness Professional, you can take advantage of that fact. Granted, you should not profess to be an expert if you aren’t, but assuming that you really do know what you are talking about, use the media to let others know, too!

Writing Books, Articles, and Success Tips

Comparable to the “expert” status that is afforded a company based on their mass media exposure, a similar assumed professional status can be taken on by any company or individual that publishes written works in their field.

Refer back to the power of the mass media that is referenced above, and you will see a very similar effect generated by published works. If someone writes a book, publishes articles, or generates a regular flow of “success tips” in any given field, it is automatically assumed by the reader that the author of the book, article, or success tip knows what they are talking about.

Is it true that the author is an expert in their field just because they know how to write or type? Of course not! However, the mass media phenomenon applies to published written works just as much as it applies to interviews done on the news, in magazines, or on the radio. The author is assumed to be proficient in the field that the book, article, or tip discusses, even though there is rarely indisputable evidence of the writer’s expertise included with the written works.

Again, it is not being suggested that you write books, articles, or success tips unless you really do hold expert status in your field. However, since the “assumptions of excellence” apply as much to the written word as to audio and visual exposure, take advantage of that fact and write as much and as often as you can!

As a side note, writing is also an excellent way for you to enhance your own knowledge in your field. Frequently during the process of writing a book or article, you are called upon to reference the sources of your information, and gathering that type of information expands your own knowledge, as well as your understanding of how to find information for similar projects in the future.

Assuming a “Position of Power”

Utilizing a “position of power” is one of the most effective methods of positioning yourself as an expert in your field. Approaching a situation from a position of power is simply the art of assuming that whoever you are talking to already perceives you to be an expert. Remember that a person’s perception is their reality, so as long as the other person believes that you are an expert, then in their eyes, you are!

For example, let’s use the story of a talented personal trainer who is applying for the position of Director of Fitness Programming at a small but successful local gym. We will call our imaginary professional Joe Trainer, and we will say for the record that Joe does indeed hold an effective track record in the personal training industry. His clients have benefited from his knowledge and guidance, and he has successfully changed many people’s lives in a positive manner. However, Joe Trainer has never been a “Director of Fitness Programming” before. Is he qualified for the job?

Let’s review Joe’s history. He has worked or worked out in dozens of gyms over the years. Joe has utilized all manner of fitness equipment, from paint cans in his garage when he was a teenager, all the way up through the most modern computerized workout machines available in some of today’s fitness facilities. Joe has put together hundreds of different workout programs for hundreds of different people over the years, and we have already determined that his client track record is excellent. Joe has also been called upon many times over the years to recommend fitness equipment purchases to his many clients, including a cost to benefit ratio analysis (in other words, if the equipment is worth the money). Joe has also been exposed to many different lines of nutritional supplements, dietary guidelines, and he has even taken aerobics classes and yoga from time to time.

Has Joe Trainer ever been a “Director of Fitness Programming” before? No. However, is Joe Trainer qualified for that position? Most likely yes! However, now Joe has a dilemma. He has scheduled an interview with the local gym, he really wants the job, but he is nervous about the fact that he has never really been a “Director of Fitness Programming” or a director of anything at all, for that matter. Joe now has 2 choices.

Choice number one is for Joe to go to the interview, ramble on uncontrollably about the hundreds of clients that he has successfully trained, babble about how many different gyms he has been in, and go into mindless detail about why he thinks Supplement A is better than Supplement B.

Do you think Joe will get the job? Let’s try a different approach.

Joe mentally prepares for the interview by reviewing the many different ways that his experience will benefit the facility. He puts together a few examples of how he successfully recommended or used one type of fitness equipment more effectively than a different type. Joe puts together mental notes about how aerobics and group exercise classes have added success to his training programs over the years, and how incorporating a cross training approach has kept his clients motivated and continually seeing results from their training programs.

By this point, Joe’s confidence in his ability to be a “Director of Fitness Programming” has increased, and he honestly believes that it is not him who is being interviewed, but it is he who is interviewing the facility. Joe doesn’t need this job - he has proven his ability to make a living as a personal trainer dozens of times over the years. He is applying for this position because he believes that he can be a great asset to the facility, and he wants to expand his experience in the field. In fact, the facility would be lucky to have him! For that matter, he may already be considering countering the posted pay scale with an increase if they want to hire him. After all, he is Joe Trainer, and his success record speaks for itself!

Now, do you think Joe will get the job? Pretty safe bet.

Is the Joe Trainer in the first example any different than the Joe Trainer using the second approach? No - we’re talking about the same person. What is different then? Joe’s belief in himself - and more importantly - Joe’s ability to show the facility how they would be missing a great opportunity if they didn’t hire him. It is Joe who is interviewing the facility, not the other way around. Joe assumed a “Position of Power” before he even got to his interview. He walked out with a new title and a nice salary, an increased confidence in his own abilities, and the opportunity to mold an entire staff of personal trainer into successful, results-oriented Fitness Professionals!

This same concept can also be applied when negotiating with potential new clients. Remember that you are the fitness professional. You are the one with the knowledge and the experience that the client needs. You are not asking them to be your clients, but rather you are giving them the opportunity to become your clients.

Conclusion

As you can see, as Fitness Professionals in the ever-growing field of health and physical fitness, we have many tools at our disposal when it comes to positioning ourselves as experts. However, we have an equal amount of responsibility to not utilize these tools unless we are 100% confident in our status as experts in our chosen disciplines. Use your knowledge and your tools wisely and appropriately, and you will see your professional and personal success grow beyond your wildest dreams!

Marketing With Brochures

With the explosion of the internet and online businesses many business owners forget how important it is to market offline as well. One of the main pieces in your company’s marketing should be a brochure. You should have a brochure for your online and offline marketing.

Brochures have many advantages over most other marketing tools available to you. Probably the most important advantage is that brochures can convey a lot of information about your business. Brochures can tell a detailed story about your business that cannot be told through display advertising. A brochure gives you the flexibility to communicate your message with both words and graphics.

In the information age people expect to get the information they want and need quickly. And that is exactly what a brochure does. It gives prospects the information they want in just a few seconds.

In most cases the more you tell the more you sell. People don’t read brochures unless they are seriously interested in gaining information. They are not interested in “white space;” they are interested in learning more about your business and your product or service. And they resent it if you don’t give them enough information to buy what you are selling.

Your sales letter should be warm, human, sincere, honest, personal and one-on-one. But your brochure should be technical. It showcases the attractions, components, advantages or positive benefits of your product or service. It should be written in concise one-sentence or one-paragraph statements that give a solid list of facts and benefits. Reprint or excerpt your best testimonials, endorsements and recommendations.

You should begin your brochure with a headline that summarizes the contents. This is very important because your headline is the ad for the brochure. Here are some important tips to help you create a winning brochures:

* Tell your prospects why they should buy your product or service.

* Tell your prospects why you are enthusiastic about your product or service.

* Give some important facts that your prospects should know about your product or service.

* Tell your prospects why your product or service will benefit them; Give facts, figures, and testimonials that confirm the case for buying your product or service.

* Use visuals, photos, graphics, and illustrations that help create a desire to buy.

* Use a three-fold (six-panel) brochure that fits neatly into a #10 envelope.

* Use a larger brochure with a flap inside the rear cover to hold 81/2 x 11 sheets of paper. This helps you personalize your brochure to specific prospects.

* Create a brochure that can be used for many years. For example, instead of saying, “We’re ten years old,” say “We were founded in 1995.”

* Always end your brochure by summarizing the entire proposition of what you’re selling. And restate your guarantee very powerfully and prominently.

The job any brochure is to get your prospect interested in your product or service. So make sure you give them all the information necessary to make a decision, and then offer them a way to move directly to either purchase or request more information. Your brochure should act as a tour guide for your company.

The goal of any brochure is to convey your key message quickly and concisely. Prospects want to know what’s in it for them. They want to know how your products or services will help them. Always remember, prospects have to be told what to do. So make sure your brochure does that. Your brochure is a call to action.

Run ads that invite prospects to call, write or e-mail you for a free brochure. Your brochures should be given to prospects who request them or have a high probability of purchasing from you. By doing this, you can give many reasons to purchase from you without paying for the advertising space to do so. Then you add the names of the brochure-requesters to your mailing and e-mailing lists and write to them regularly. One final note, never send out a brochure without some type of letter with it.

Use your brochures to spread the word about your company. Use ads, your customers, the internet, and any other outlets you can think of to have your prospects request them. The more places you use, the more effective your brochures will be. Your brochure will compliment every part of your marketing. It will leave your prospects with everything they need to help turn them into buying customers.

Refinance Mortgage Lenders - Tips for Refinancing Online

Save even more on your refinancing by going online for your next
mortgage lender. By searching for refinancing quotes online, you can tap into
a larger pool of lenders.

Online financing companies also offer special deals to remain
competitive, so you could potentially save thousands with a better offer. While
online lenders can save you time and money, follow these tips to be
sure you are getting the best deal.

1. Compare Many Lenders

It may be tempting to simply look at your favorite financing company.
But to get the best rate, you need to look at many lenders, even ones
that aren’t nationally known.

To make the process a little bit easier, start with a mortgage broker
site. They bring together dozens of lenders for the most competitive
financing packages. They will give you multiple bids that you can compare
side by side. The other option is to start your search with recommended
lenders.

2. Look At All The Numbers - Not Just The Rate

Many different numbers make a loan a good deal, not just the interest
rate. Closing costs and fees can sometimes make a cheap loan very
expensive. For a general idea of a loan’s cost, compare the APR, which
includes both the closing costs and interest rates.

Also look at the fees, which can add up to hundreds. There may be
annual, cash out, or early payment fees. With a typical mortgage, you
shouldn’t have these fees. It is only with a home equity loan or subprime
mortgage where you may run into these. And in most cases you can get them
removed.

3. Give Yourself Plenty Of Time

Searching for a refinance lender isn’t a process that should be rushed.
With so much money on the line, give yourself plenty of time to sort
through all the numbers. By searching online, you can keep your search to
just a couple of hours.

Try using one of ABC Loan Guide’s Recommended Mortgage Refinance Companies.

When you are actually ready to apply for your refinancing, the
application takes less than fifteen minutes to complete. In a couple of days,
you’ll receive your loan contract. And in two weeks you can be enjoying
lower rates on your new mortgage.

Have Fire-Drills to Survive Chaos

Back when I was a grade school kid, a couple of times each semester the fire alarms, announcing a firedrill, would shriek. We would all jump up from our desks and march, single-file to our appointed spot outdoors. The goal of those fire drills was to teach students how to react if a disaster struck; instead of the chaos that would occur when hundreds of kids try to escape from a burning building. A safe, orderly evacuation would certainly reduce the number of casualties.

In recent years sudden, unforeseen, disastrous events have devastated populations around the globe. Terrorist attacks in New York, London and Madrid, tsunami in Asia, and hurricanes along the gulf coast have all cost individuals, businesses, even whole geographic regions dearly.

I’ve seen a number of recommendations to help people prepare for disasters in various media, but every business has to prepare for a disaster also. If a disaster never hits you, be thankful, but if one does occur the business should be able to reopen afterwards if you have spent just a little effort on contingency planning.

Naturally your planning should include redundant off-premises backups of all computer files to insure you will be able to resurrect inventory records, bank account records, tax records, accounts receivable, accounts payable, human resources, training manuals, etc. It is also vital to be able to connect with your staff in case of an evacuation or natural disaster. A business that is well prepared for disasters should be able to connect with personnel using multiple methods - cell phone, land line, email, and all the staff should know how to connect with management so the business is able to continue after order is restored. .

All the above plans are not worth the paper they are printed on unless the disaster plan is updated and practiced regularly, just like those fire drills we endured as kids. The fire never hit my school and a hurricane may never hit your business, but if you have periodic fire drills you will be well prepared and confident the business will survive.

Herbs That Help You Get Larger, Firmer Breasts

Natural Breast Enlargement is a much safer and cheaper way to enlarge your breasts. In fact, breast enlargement surgery can cost $10,000 or more. Thankfully, there are many alternative, all natural breast enlargement options on the market today for you to choose from though. Let’s look at some of the most popular herbs that enhance your breasts, as well as how and why they work…

Feneugreek Seed Extract contains some of the highest concentrations of the plant elements recommended by herbalists for breast enlargement. Also hormone regulator that that has been used to treat menopausal symptoms and balances the female system.

Fennel Seed is rich in flavonoids that cause estrogenic effects. This boosting of secretion is key to the formation of new breast cells and tissue, and the boosting of excretion is key to the cleansing of the estrogen receptor sites which get clouded with environmental toxins that mimic estrogen. By acting to remove these and other toxins from the body, it acts as a tonic and stimulant as well.

Dong Quai Root aids the body in the efficient use of hormones. Also used as treatment for some menopause symptoms and it’s been used successfully to alleviate PMS (premenstrual syndrome) and menopausal symptoms (Hardy 2000). Scientists believe that one mechanism of action of Dong Quai is to promote natural progesterone synthesis. Progesterone (to be discussed in more detail later) is another hormone whose production declines at menopause. The plant nutrients can help to wash these out of the system, aiding in increasing the health of the breast tissue.

Blessed Thistle Herb is used to treat a variety of female concerns including painful menstruation and associated aches and pains.
